Since 1991, The Gatorade Sports Science Institute has funded over 275 research projects through its student grant program. Graduate-level research projects in the general areas of exercise physiology, energy metabolism or sports nutrition are eligible for funding on a competitive basis through the GSSI.

To be considered for a student grant you must be a registered full-time graduate student in a university department. The application process and program details are as follows:

Applications will be available and submissions will be accepted from the beginning of May through the end of June.

A letter of recommendation from the student's advisor is required. GSSI will contact the advisor after the student grant application is submitted. Be sure to submit your proposal prior to the end of June deadline so there is enough time for your advisor to generate and submit a letter of recommendation to meet the deadline.

During the defined submission acceptance period you can download the proposal template from www.gssiweb.org. Please complete the application form and have your proposal ready to upload at the end the application. We will not accept proposals that are not completed in the requested format.

Budget for the project is not to exceed $3,500. Please provide information related to the expenses in page 3 of the proposal template. Examples of how funds can be used include purchasing of supplies or equipment, student travel to a professional meeting to present results or travel to other laboratories for research training. Funds cannot be used to cover faculty or technician salaries, for graduate student stipends, or indirect costs.

Grant recipients will be notified about their level of funding during September.

Prior to disbursal of funds, student grant recipients must produce evidence of Institutional Review Board approval for the proposed project.

Award recipients must send a progress report to GSSI one-year after initiation of funding.

ALL MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE END OF JUNE.
